Urgent release notes about LifeSaver updating LifeSaver Documentation LifeSaver V1 June 1, 1995 Copyright © 1995, Eli Ben-Shoshan You should print out this page before attempting installation as you may need to have handy the installation suggestions at the bottom. By the way, what is LifeSaver? LifeSaver is an easy-to-use record keeper which will save you in desperate times. LifeSaver helps you keep track of everything from medical records to identification numbers so that in case of accidental loss, you can straighten matters quickly and easily. LifeSaver will be extremely friendly and will prompt you for data you might not otherwise think to enter. So if you lose your wallet or can't find those insurance forms, don't worry -- you'll be prepared with LifeSaver. LifeSaver will provide you with simple ways to replicate the information to diskette or paper so that you can keep several copies in various safe places. It is recommended that you keep multiple copies just in case. Potential installation problems LifeSaver is sometimes finicky when being installed. (1) If installation is slow, give the program a chance. Some users have reported installation times close to 3 or 4 minutes. The biggest culprit is the MSAJT110.DLL file which may seem like it is hanging (but it is installing as long as the disk drive light is on). (2) If there is a strange error during installation indicating trouble writing a file or the pre-existence of a file, what you should do is find that file (it will tell you where it is) and move or erase it (it is likely a Visual Basic file) so that LifeSaver can give you the newest version without trouble. (3) If the installer locks up, make a note of the file it was attempting to create when it locked. In the Program Manager, find that file on your hard drive, delete it, and then reattempt the installation. (4) If you get a warning at the beginning of the setup about a file being in use that won't be writeable, just wait until you get the option to exit setup. Exit the setup, exit and restart Windows and try again. (5) If you get a warning about adding the line: SHARE.EXE \L:500 to your AUTOEXEC.BAT, just ignore it. (6) If you have any other problems, feel free to email me at eliben@gsb.stanford.edu -- please be specific in your description of the installation problems. Documentation You should decompress TheDoc.zip (pkunzip 2.04g) and print out the file TheDoc.doc (MS Word 2.0c format) to have formal documentation and an explanation of how the program works. Enjoy!
